"I am a little world made cunningly
Of elements and an angelic sprite ..." Opening lines of John Donne's, Holy Sonnet V (1635)
Holy Herd Management
I am a consciousness made thoughtlessly
Of elements and energies composed.
Self-replication that no “mind” proposed,
Just eons for the force of chemistry
To work upon dumb nature tirelessly
Accomplishing what “smarter” apes supposed
Had happened through “creation,” facts transposed
Where needed to “explain” diversity
Of living forms to those whose narrow view
Consists primarily of self and need.
So, how might one creatively construe
Belief in “gods” who dictate thought and deed?
What Evolution clears up in a word
“Creation” obfuscates to rule the herd.
